Expression is itself transformation; this is the message that art brings.
—Stephen Levine
Expressive Arts Therapy can reveal the unique structure and texture of our inner world. Incorporating arts in therapy is a plunge into the most exciting inner adventure: self knowledge through creative expression of the deep self. The arts— writing, movement, art, theater, music or poetry— help us engage with our personal imagery, myth, language, culture, and story. Expressive Arts Therapy facilitates the emergence of creativity, insight, and self acceptance. It honors the validity of transcendental consciousness in all its many forms of expression.
In reality, there is nothing but a living body. That is the fact; and psyche is as much a living body as body is living psyche: it is just the same.
—C.G. Jung, Zarathustra Seminar, 1935, vol. 1, p. 396.
